This week I’ve been back in my beloved Bangkok. The energy of this city always catches me off guard and although I was planning on having something of a relaxed stay, I’ve found myself in anomalous situations almost every day. And my nights, well, they have been as nutty as fruitcake.
This particular photo was taken on Khaosan Road. If you’ve ever been to Thailand, you’ve likely been to Khaosan Road. If you’ve never been to Thailand, you’ve likely heard of it.

There aren’t many roads in the world that can engender so much enthusiasm within the people present on them. This road has existed since long before any of us were alive, and has been a popular destination for travellers since before most of us were alive. A myriad of bodies, each with its own intentions, dreams and ambitions converge on the street, and create the vast sea of souls that can be seen rambling along together, every day and every night.
Bangkok is a city in which many people stop in on their way toward somewhere else. It is a city in which many people arrive in when starting or finishing their South East Asian or Thai trip. And Khaosan Road, as untraditionally-Thai as it may seem, is a place you can go to and always meet someone who comes from a disparate world of existence, but shares at least one thing in common with you: their life journey has guided them to this disorderly thoroughfare at the same time as yours.
What a fascinating place.
